A while back we were asked by RCA to help them promote the Crangon Crangon (commonly known as the brown or sand shrimp). Besides their fresh websiteand blog the Dutch fishery agency wanted to highlight these shrimps of the North Sea by reaching out to the blogosphere.
In order to do so, a competition was devised with a simple scope. Throughout a 4 week period bloggers were invited to make and share an original yet tasty dish incorporating shrimps. The best recipes, judged by chef Felix Alen, were eligible for a spot in the grand finale where they will compete for a great weekend at the Waddenzee with friends or family.
Recipes in of all colours and flavours reached us. No ordinary tomates crevettes, but often creative and refreshing creations, proving once again your average blogger knows how to think out of his/her lunchbox.
Curious to see who will be crowned the queen or king of shrimps at the final cook-off which will be held on thursday the 17th of december at Kookeiland in Deurne. We wish the final contestants (Ntone, SasvanGent, Minorissues, Hungryfeelings, Coolinary & Keukenweetjes) the best of luck.
For a while now J&B has been hosting parties across the globe under the “start a party“-flag. This time they would be flying out the lucky few to Ushuaia in Argentina. For those of you who aren’t familiar with the coordinates of this spot, its the most southern region in the world.
People from across the world were invited or had won a spot for this party extravaganza. In a five day period, they were flown to Buenos Aires, headed down to Ushuaia for a quick visit and party and did some sightseeing.
Together with the people over at NOYZ (Isobar), we thought out a small-scale campaign in the Belgian blogosphere for their client J&B (Diageo). Blogger/photographer/reporter and Echanté hero Alex Deforce was invited to join in on the fun and a similar concept of what we did for Club Med was developed…
Alex would send us images throughout his journey which we’d give a spot in banners carefully positioned across the Enchanté network. This J&B branded banner randomly selected 3 images and once clicked upon, traffic got diverted to Alex’ latest blogpost, giving readers the inside story on his experiences or latest photo report.
Although finding a cellphone signal or getting online was not the easiest of jobs at the end of the world, his photos, blogposts, facebook updates and tweets got through to Belgium and delivered a significant amount of feedback. Blogposts were read, comments were made across different platforms, tweets got retweeted and many ‘likes’ followed. A nice project illustrating how brands and companies can get in touch with people, using the right tone of voice, through social media.
Last Friday, I went Youthwatching. A conference on European Youth Trends organized by the great people of Trendwolves. Great location and a great effort to keep the focus on the youth and their trends. Met some great people, learned a lot and listened to some interesting speakers. There are overviews of the conference all over the web, but there was one thing in particular that I enjoyed a lot.
Instead of having a moderator who announced the speakers, all speakers were announced by young creative people who got a minute or so to introduce their own project to the audience before announcing the next speaker. These youngsters gave the conference a great vibe and a with the limited time they had, they showed what youngsters are up to. After the conference I received a mail that asked the attendees what they thought could improve the youthwatching conference in the future. My suggestion would be to have more of these young creatives on stage. I think marketeers can learn an awful lot from these young entrepeneurs.
Trendwolves maps European Youth trends. The presentation of their 2009 report was the most interesting part of the whole event. Some of the figures they announced left me baffled.
36% of the European youth population has published video online. 36%! That is like … so much video. Another remarkable number I managed to remember was that on the question what their preferred medium was 66% (or was it 67%) answered the internet, while only 22% answered tv. Bye bye tv.
The full report is probably essential stuff for anyone who is involved in targeting youngsters. I am 32 years old and although Maarten tried to convince me that I was still young . I think there is a huge gap between the age of 32 and lets say 18. Age is so much more than a number.
So, the Belgian minister of Defence – Pieter De Crem – calls blogging a dangerous phenomenon. Guess he had a bad experience with a blogger. Anyway, you can read a lot of interesting posts on the subject and while you are at it, make sure to let the people know that your blog is dangerous, brrr. Embed this little banner … hehe.
A while ago we were contacted by the great people from Kursaal Oostende. They have a flamenco show called Sangre Flamenco scheduled in April and wanted to promote the event in the blogosphere. Different options were considered and finally we started searching for a Hero willing to join them on a Press Trip to Madrid. A couple of telephone calls later, Ine was all set and ready to join them. Olé! E viva España!
You can see the schedule of the trip on Ine’s site … we are looking forward to read and see more on the trip.
So now that we have arranged one of our Heroes to go to Spain, we expect one or more Heroes to do the same for us. We are six men strong at the moment and love the sun! You know where to find us!
Last night we went to the ‘Site of the Year’ election. It was great meeting a lot of people and we send our congratulations to Sloddervossen (best new blog), X-pose (best photoblog), Gentblogt (best groupblog) and last but not least Onnozelheid (best personal blog).
Oh, and if you want to win the Award for Best Personal Blog next year. Invite a brother!
Some of our Heroes do not only manage a great blog but organize great events as well (think Barcamp, Yulbiz, Girl Geek Dinner, etc.). If you are one of those Heroes and you are planning an event, feel free to send me a 160*150px banner of your event. I will make you a booking and send you a tag that you can publish on your site and that can be pasted by anyone who feels like promoting your event.
